Job Description
Networks & Telecoms Technician
The post holder will be a Networks and Telecoms specialist working within a small group of technical specialists, who collectively have responsibility for providing efficient network and telecoms support and reliable operations to Nestor Healthcare Group. A realistic, pragmatic, βcan doβ attitude is essential. Reporting to Network & Telecoms Manager.
The post holder will be expected to liase with all IT & Project Managers to:
Assist in any specific project work that requires input from the Networks and telecoms team
The post holder will be expected to meet regularly with the Network & Telecoms Manager and work particularly closely with all other members of the Networks and Telecoms Team.
SPECIFICS:
The post holder will be responsible for day-to-day running of the following:
’ NHG wide area network, requiring an understanding of networking needs and associated WAN technologies, whether located in Hatfield or elsewhere in the NHG organisation;
’ NHG local area networks, requiring an understanding of networking needs and associated LAN technologies, whether located in Hatfield or elsewhere in the NHG organisation β This includes remote branch setups and relocations;
’ NHG Telecommunicationβs infrastructure, understanding IP telephony and legacy analogue phone systems;
’ File and Print servers running Windows and related technologies, including domain and IP strategies;
’ Action and resolve Service Desk problems that have been escalated to the Networks & Telecoms Team;
’ Create Procedural documentation of resolutions of commonly accruing problems;
’ Provide a report on activities and plans to the Network & Telecoms Manager. Procurement of Mobile devices and Data cards.
REQUIREMENTS:
Necessary:
’ Good inter-personal skills, including the ability to converse will all levels of management and staff;

’ Willing to travel β including occasional short stays away from home;
’ SLA Compliance;
’ Previous experience in a Desktop Support or Network Support Role;
’ Clean and full driving licence;
’ Excellent compute operating system skills - preferably demonstrated through attainment of recognised industry qualifications;
’ Excellent computer/server hardware knowledge - preferably demonstrated through the attainment of recognised industry qualifications;
’ Excellent computer software skills β preferably demonstrated through the attainment of recognised industry qualifications;
Technical
’ PC installation/configuration skills.
’ Printer installation/configuration.
’ Server installation/configuration skills.
’ Windows 2003 Server installation/configuration skills.
’ Understanding of technical architecture β Microsoft / DNS / WINS / DHCP.
’ Network fault finding skills.
’ Maintain LAN switches and Routers β HP Procurve and Cisco.
’ Understanding of ADSL and MPLS networks.
’ Knowledge of LAN and WAN technologies, including good experience of IP networking.
’ Network monitoring.
’ Structured cabling β Cat V.
’ Good understanding of network security.
’ IP Telephony systems β preferably Mitel.
’ Knowledge of Meridian/Nortel systems.
’ Experience of dealing with third party suppliers.
’ Symantec Backup Exec.
